DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Receives formal and on-the-job training designed to familiarize the
employee with functions and operations of the organization and provide
the experience necessary to become fully qualified in the practical
application of veterinary technician skills, techniques, and concepts.
Maintains inventories of kennel supplies and places orders to ensure
the correct volume is on hand. Cleans and maintains kennels to control
the spread of disease. Monitors animals recovering from treatments,
and notifies technicians and veterinarians of any unusual changes or
symptoms. Applies basic animal care knowledge to assigned tasks. Assists
in initial physical exams; performs initial exams once certified to
do so by technicians and veterinarians. Collects and processes laboratory
specimens such as blood, urine, and feces for testing. Inoculates against
disease. Operates x-ray equipment and performs basic diagnostic radiography.
Fills prescriptions based on established guidelines and veterinarian’s
orders. Communicates effectively both orally and in writing. May be
required to assist or perform routine clerical and administrative functions
in support of office operation. Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
A willingness and desire to work with domesticated animals
is the primary requirement for this position. Experience or on-the-job
training as a veterinary assistant in a veterinary clinic, human medical
facility/clinic, certified kennel operation, or related medical field
is desired. Must initiate rabies vaccination series upon appointment,
to be completed within 30 days of employment. Successful completion
of a National Agency Check with favorable results is required.
