Aid Lifeguard (NF-0189-I)
Starting: $8.00/ph, Location: Outdoor Recreation (Pools)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons. Ensures
that the swimming area is open to patrons at the scheduled times and
that authorized persons are only admitted to the area. Rescue swimmers
in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance
if and when needed. Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health
conditions, ocean conditions of rough water or hazards, and recommends
closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail. When working at
pools, may operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure
pool water meets specified standards. Ensures that diving boards are
inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting, and that necessary
repairs are made. May perform other related or incidental duties as
assigned for the daily operation of the swimming area to include: cleaning
of bath houses, wading pools, main pools, pool decks, beach areas, sunbathing
areas, etc. May be scheduled to work at any of the five facilities operated
by 18th Services; (Hagerstrom, Chibana, Overton, High School, or Marina).
If certified in WSI, incumbent may be required to teach swim lessons
if instructors are needed. Alerts supervisor to problems with equipment,
facility, lack of supplies, and patron complaints. Responsible for filling
out accident forms according to established guidelines and time frames.
May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Performs other
related duties as assigned. Employees under the age of 18 will be under
line-of-sight supervision when duties involve working around children/youth.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience which provided knowledge of swimming activities, rules, and
procedures; skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety
equipment is desirable. Water Safety Instructor Certificate is desirable.
