SCUBA equipment such as regulators, BCDs
and tanks require certain professional attention
for safe usage. New equipment can be used
as is safely but needs be put into a regular
service schedule. Used equipment should
be professionally inspected before usage.
Generally, the following information can
be used as a guideline:
Tanks
-Yearly visual inspection as determined by
the applied sticker
-Visual inspection should be done any time
the cylinder has been used below 500 psi in
the water or if the cylinder has sat empty
for any length of time
-Hydrostatic testing must be done by every
five years as determined by the stamped date
and code on the shoulder of the tank
BCDs -A yearly cleaning and safety check
by a certified technician will assure safe
operation and a long life for the equipment
Regulators
-Yearly service by a trained technician should
be done to assure safety and proper performance.
Note that frequent divers may need to have
regulators serviced more often
-Regulators should be taken to a certified
technician any time water has been allowed
