HOW TO ADOPT A PET
Adopting an animal from Karing Kennels is highly recommended.  Not only will you save a life but you'll enhance your own.  People who have pets live longer and recover from health problems faster. Kids with pets learn empathy earlier than other kids.

Adoption Fees:
$100 for a dog or a cat.

Adopt a pet on a rainy day and get 25% off

The new pet owner will fill out the adoption agreement, and will have read the 18th Wing Instruction 48-107, Registration and Control of Pets.  The new pet owner will also receive an adoption packet.  A copy of the adoption agreement will be put in the pet's medical records.

Karing Kennels will provide the following*:

- Micro chipping
- One Distemper Vaccine (if pet is not current at the time of adoption)
- One Rabies Vaccine (if pet is not current at the time of adoption)
- De-worming

* Service may be altered depending on age and condition of the pet.
Note:  Please contact Karing Kennels to see if the pet is still available.

Things To Consider Before Adopting A Pet
The fact that you're thinking about adopting a pet from an animal shelter means you're a responsible and caring person. But before you make that final decision to bring a furry friend into your home, take a moment to think about these questions:

• Why do you want a pet?
• Do you have time for a pet?
• Can you afford a pet?
• Will you be able to PCS with your pet?
• Are you prepared to deal with special problems that only a pet can cause?
• Do you know who will care for your pet while you are away on vacation?
• Will you be a responsible pet owner?
• Finally, are you prepared to keep and care for the pet for the rest of his or her lifetime?

Responsibilities of Pet Owners in Base Housing:
Effective 1 April 2005, there is a maximum of two pets allowed per household. A litter may be kept for seven days after the age of mandatory registration has been reached.
Animals cannot be left unattended outside or in vehicles. If left outside a pet must be in a fenced yard, kennel run, or on a leash in the yard directly attended by the housing occupant. Owners must provide adequate food, water, shelter and shade. A doghouse or commercial pet carrier is not sufficient as the sole source of shade due to inadequate ventilation.
To prevent unsanitary conditions you are required to clean up after your pets and remove feces daily. Pets are not allowed in parks or playground areas. Pets must be kept on a leash when being walked and in public areas.
Ensure that pets are not a general nuisance to neighbors like excessive barking, howling, or invading the privacy of others. Stray pets will be reported to Animal Control.
